Who, Why and Where

Pocahontas Woods is a non-profit workshop dedicated to providing continuing education in the area of high-end furniture, cabinetry and craft production, and offering its expertise to individuals and groups whose interest lie in any field of woodworking.

Besides being a region of great natural beauty, Pocahontas County is a major supplier of this country’s greatest renewable resource: trees. Eighty percent of our county is a well-regulated national forest. Pocahontas Woods serves as a model of what can be accomplished through dedication to community and education to those seeking to become more proficient in the fields of woodworking.

Pocahontas Woods operates a number of woodworking training programs from several-hour workshops to degree programs. In conjunction with this priority we also produce high-end furniture, cabinetry and craft products by commission or sold through our store or through regional craft outlets. We believe that aggressive growth and development in this specialized aspect of secondary wood products manufacturing will have a strong spillover effect in encouraging other business developments from the one person shop to larger enterprises.

Pocahontas County is blessed with great natural beauty as well as being a four-seasons recreational area. Miles of biking and hiking trails linking beautiful rivers and lakes surrounded by national forests are a perfect setting for our facility. With The Greenbrier Resort to the south, The Homestead to the east and Snowshoe Mountain Resort just north of us, it’s all here, and you can learn some woodworking.
