Journeyman's Program

Assembling a sideboardSome of the best ideas at Pocahontas Woods were not a part of the original plan. The Journeyman’s certified program is an answer to the region's need for a continuing education choice that can adapt to the individual’s schedule, rather than the student trying to fit into a predetermined schedule.

Mike uses the shaperThe journeymans  program allows the crafts person to set the direction and focus of their instructional needs. Once the required introduction to the shop equipment is completed the student and staff put together a tailored program that will fulfill the individual's needs, within whatever time or seasonal restraints may exist.

Cutting dovetailsStudents generally enter this program with specific needs or goals, whether that be an increased competency on certain machines such as our new CNC machine so vital to the cabinet and carving industries, or feeling safe on saws  and planers. If your plan is to venture into the world of crafts, or you want to build that keepsake piece for your daughter, look into this class.

Instructor and apprenticeAll dates,  times and fees for this  program are decided on an ad hoc basis. Our staff can also assist in obtaining grants and scholarships for study. Work/study plans are also available. This is the starting point for the future craftsman who wants to build things well.
